Girls Sleep Over

This Tuesday and Wednesday, we had a girls sleep over.  We had it because me, my sister and my gramma's birthdays are all in December.  The first thing we did was eat dinner.  We got take out from A & W and then we did a craft.  We designed special banners for our rooms.  Then we went upstairs and watched a movie.  I got a special coffee crisp hot chocolate.  The next day we got to go to a pottery shop and paint our own pottery.  I chose my favourite animal, the horse.  It was a really fun event!

A couple of days ago I had my friend Emily over.  We created an event kind of like Bethlehem Star.  We had different posts set up where the kids would stop and do an activity.  The first stop was an obstacle course.  The second stop was a game of hide and seek.  The third game was tag.  The fourth game was a quiz about each other.  For each event they received a Shopkin and they could spend it at the store at the end.

Bethlehem Star #2

This is our church event Bethlehem Star.  The first night we came, we were in the grainary.  I got to use a grinder.  We also tried selling wheat.  The second night we were in the copper smith's making copper jewelry and then we moved into a family booth inside where we got to build with blocks.  My favourite part was being in the grainary and playing the part.  I liked the first day better than all the others.

Science

In Science we are learning about sound. We learned that sound travels in waves. Sound travels faster through solid objects than it does through water or gas. Sound is also a vibration. I found it interesting that the first sonic boom was created by an American fighter pilot named Chuck Yeager.

Minecraft Egyptian Pyramid

This week for Social Studies I got to go onto Minecraft and build a pyramid.  I also built a mummy out of an armour stand and a set of armour and a wither skeleton head.  I think I did a pretty good job, especially since I added some chests and I even added the golden top on the top of the pyramid.

Tuesdays

Every Tuesday, I go to Community Class and Musical Theatre.  In community class I have two separate classes.  My classes are art and science.  In art we have just started so I am not sure which topics we'll be doing but we've a sketch book and every week we need to add a sketch to it.  In science, we are studying human body systems.  In science I have a notebook that I make a note booking page in each week.
After community class, Mikayla and me go to Muscial Theatre.  In musical theatre we are doing a play called Christmas in Egypt.  Some of the songs in the play are, Spend Christmas in Egypt, Yes, and Jesus's birthday.
After that I go to Junior Youth.  At junior youth we are studying 1 John.  We also play games and get taught a lesson.
I hope that every Tuesday is as fun as last week.

Ancient Egypt

In Social Studies I have been working on creating a diary of an Egyptian girl that takes place around the reign of Pharaoh Cheops.  Everything that I am learning, I am figuring out a way to put it into my diary.  Here's an example.......

Dear Diary, Today my mother took me to see the pyramids.  The pyramids were incredible.  I couldn't take my eyes off.  I also went to see the pyramid construction.  The bricks are going to be granite.  I hope they finish in time.  Right now there is a slave shortage so hopefully we will get some more soon.  Granite is the heaviest pyramid material there is.  The pyramid is going to be for Pharaoh Cheops.

Residential Schools

This week in Language Arts we've been learning about residential schools.  I also heard the story of Shirley Stirling.  Shirley Stirling was only a young girl when she was taken to the residential school.  It was a hard experience for her because she was taken away from her family and her belongings were taken away.  In residential schools, the children didn't really learn anything and they were just used for manual labour.  Many of the children in the residential schools died of tuberculosis.  Residential schools started when europeans thought that indians were unclean and filthy so they decided to kill all the tribes to get rid of them.  One man stepped up and said that instead of killing them, they should create schools where they can learn to be civilized.  This week I have learned that residential schools were a cruel and unnecessary.

Malala Yousafzai

I recently read a "What in the world?" article about a girl named Malala Yousafzai. She was a woman rights activist. She fought for women's education in Northern Pakistan. When she was 19 she was invited to Canada to receive an honorary citizenship from Justin Trudeau.

"Let future generations say we were the ones who stood up.  Let them say we were the first to live in a world where all girls can learn and lead without fear."

Moving to Kelowna

I recently found out that we were moving to Kelowna. When I found out I was really disappointed but then Mommy told us more about Kelowna and we were not so disappointed. When we move I will miss my friends but I think it will be a fun adventure.

Well-Being

To be a healthy person you need to eat well, exercise and keep your mind healthy.  Exercise, eating well and keeping your mind healthy are all connected.  Keeping good mental health includes mind exercises, reading your Bible, praying and keeping a good perspective.  Some things that benefit physical health are staying away from junky and sugary foods, eating the main food groups, drinking water and exercising.  They are all connected because they all help benefit your boy so you can stay healthy. Some thing that do not benefit your health are drugs, alcohol and junk food.
You can make good choices by saying "No" when someone offers you drugs and alcohol and staying away from junk food.  You should try and exercise at least 30min. a day.

Refugees

My current Social Studies project is on Refugees.  A helpful book that I read during my project planning is called, "World Issues, Refugees" by Clive Gifford.  This book has personal stories, key debates and facts.  One thing I learned from this book is that some famous composers were refugees as well as Albert Einstein.  Another thing I learned is that many people try to travel illegally to another country to gain safety from war.  In that case the person usually gets sent to court or to jail.  I will share more in my report that is due at the end of the month.

Science Center

Last week we went on a trip to Kamloops.  We were able to visit the science center.  It's called The
Big Little Science Centre.  A really interesting activity I did was a create a face website.  You can create any face in the universe.  Police use it to find criminals.  The witness describes the person and the police rebuilds the person.

There was also a pet lizard that I got to pet.  The skin felt scaly especially since the lizard was shedding.

Newtons Laws of Science

1. Law of Inertia

Inertia is why things that are not moving prefer not to move unless you add a big amount of force. Inertia is also when something is moving but prefers to stay moving. Another form of inertia is when something is going really fast you can't turn. One thing is for sure without inertia we could not turn, stop, or go properly.
The experiment we did demonstrated the law of inertia.  First we stacked up five pennies and then we took a separate penny and flicked it at the stack. The penny we flicked at the stack knocked the bottom penny out of the stack and sent it flying.

2.  Newton's Second Law

Newton's second law states that force is what causes an object to change speed or direction.  Objects with greater mass require more force to move it than objects with less mass.  There is a formula for this law.  The formula is F=m x a.  That means that force is equal to the mass times acceleration.  An example of this law is the experiment we did.  We balanced an egg on a paper towel roll and put that on a circular pan.  We put the circular pan on a cup filled with water and we took our hand to bang the circular pan.  The egg fell into the glass of water while the paper towel roll and circular pan went flying.

3. Newton's Third Law

Newton's first law states that for each reaction there is an opposite action.  An example is a rocket flying into space.  The only reason the rocket can go up is because the gas is pushing against the launch pad.  The opposite action is that the rocket shoots into space.  Another example is when you bump into the wall and get pushed backwards.  That is because the wall is pushing against you in the same way that you pushed against it.  An experiment that we did that illustrates this law is when we pushed a skateboard against the wall, the skateboard flew away from the wall.
