Ancient Greece-Geography and Climate

  • ●  What geographical factors influenced ancient Greek society? Greece was surrounded by water so they fished a lot and traded with other places.

  • ●  Were the ancient Greeks farmers? Yes and No. Why or why not? Because The soil was hard but they could still grow barley, grapes, and olives.

  • ●  Do you think the society of ancient Greece would have developed differently had
it been located somewhere else in the world? Yes. Why or why not? If Greece was located were there wasn't much water they wouldn't of depended on fishing so much and if they were located where the soil was good they would have depended on farming more

  • ●  How does climate influence the development of a civilization? How do you think
ancient Greek civilization was shaped by the climate of the Mediterranean?
  • Mediterranean climate was hot and made the soil brittle so the people couldn't farm and instead depended on fishing.
  • The houses were made out of clay to keep the houses cool instead of hot and the clay was abundant and easy to work with.  The people had lot's of grapes because of the climate and allowed the grapes to grow abundantly.

  • ●  How did the ancient Greeks make use of the natural resources in their area?
  • The ancient Greeks fished from the ocean.  They grew plants like grapes, barley and olives due to the climate.

  • ●  What role would you have wanted to play in ancient Greek society? A baker or a dancer Why? Because those sound like fun jobs.

  • ●  If you have previously studied a different ancient civilization, how is Greece
similar or different in this area? (Describe and explain)
Ancient Egypt is similar because:
- they both have hot climates.
-they both farm
-they both traded with other groups
-they used boats
-they both worshipped false gods

Ancient Egypt and Ancient Greece were different because:
-Egyptans could farm more
-Egyptians only had one source of water (The Nile River)
-Ancient Greece had lot's of mountains
-Ancient Greece was surrounded by ocean
